Care of Latex

Advanced Search

Prolonged exposure to heat, sunlight or moisture will eventually weaken the fabric. It is essential, therefore to always store rubber clothes in a cool, dark, dry place.

After wearing, rubber garments should be rinsed in lukewarm water with a little soap or mild detergent, to remove sweat and cigarette smoke.
When dry, talc the inside surfaces lightly to prevent clinging while on the hanger.

Before attempting to put them on, skin tight garments such as catsuits, stockings, gloves etc should be talced liberally on the insides. This will make them easier to slip into.

Most people like their rubber to look shiny. A good sheen can be produced with silicone spray, wiped on lightly with a lint free cloth (J cloth). The best product for this purpose, pvc dressing, it is waterbased and washable. Furniture polishes such as ‘Mr Sheen’ (pump action as opposed to spray) can also be used.

To create a mirror-like sheen in the best rubber photography you must use a silicone spray, which is best sprayed over a surface already treated with pvc dressing. Please note that silicone spray remains tacky to the touch after application; it does not dry like wiped-on products. Spray will only in a well-ventilated room and avoid contact with other fabrics.

Contact with copper and copper based alloys should be avioded as this will tarnish the latex. Certain beauty products and make-up can contain this and we cannot be held liable in this instance.

Finally, always handle rubber carefully. Pulling on tight clothes too enthusiastically can leave permanent finger dimples, and sharp nails or jewellery can puncture the fabric.

Complaints can only be entertained if you have complied strictly with these instructions! These are not just clothes: wearing them is a total experience. Enjoy them.
